I have sweat in every corner of my body. Not that my body has corners. Folds and rolls, rather. But let's start at the beginning...Pancakes today for breakfast along with the same assorted stuff. Right after breakfast at 9:30 another lady and I began making instant mashed potatoes for lunch. It took TWO AND A HALF HOURS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So much for instant! But lemme tell you- they were awesome! Along with them we had pork loin (pork loin!!!) with a super gravy and carrots. Kids love the potatoes- some had 5 scoops with repetky.
Kids are doubling up on swimming times today with the heat. I'm reminding them about sunscreen and water.
Gotta run. Chef Salad for dinner. More components!!!!!!!!

  3. You should have your own TV show, Tabir Kitchen! Maybe even have a competition called Zalizna Kyxnia.

  5. Kudos to you, Lesiu! i think every yunak/yunachka should have to do a tour of duty as a real "pani v kuchni," not just sweep the floor/wash glasses like we did as dyzhurni! Keep up the good work and stay hydrated!!!! Will make sure to thank the PvK brigade at PK when I visit my kids next weekend!!!

  6. Almost came to visit you today when I swung by tabir (swung by, as in 1.5 hours out of my way) to drop off a missing dowel, but was given the distinct impression that I should not be within 100 miles of my kid until Den Plastuna, so I got out of there before he saw me! Was hoping to grab a bite at the Tabir Bistro....

  7. Lesiu, I absolutely LOVE reading your pani v kuxni blog. It brings back so many memories of being dyzhurna (somehow it ALWAYS happened on Den' Plastuna)... Maya will be at pochatkovyj in 2 weeks, and I'll make sure that she appreciates all of your hard work!

Keep your updates coming, please... I'm enjoying this immensely!

  8. I'm posting a comment here about Ivana Kupala because the link to the newer blog entry's comments isn't working. Anyway...

Ivana Kupala is an ancient pagan superstitious fertility rite where girls float wreaths on water and guys jump over open flames in hopes of telling fortunes and seeing who survives the burning. Kinda an ancient version of an inverse Darwin Awards. It was incorporated into Orthodox Christianity by adding the 'Ivana' part and claiming it has to do with John the Baptist. How they explained the connect between JTB and jumping over flames is beyond my comprehension.
